Trading with a high degree of risk management

Trading at the GEN-I Group is conducted centrally from a 24/7 trading floor in Ljubljana. The company’s wide range of activities includes concluding different types of agreements, which vary according to their content, maturity and the way they are agreed. Both long-term (annual, monthly) and short-term agreements (daily, intra-day) can be agreed bilaterally (OTC market) or through organized electricity markets where physical products and derivatives are traded.  The right combination of the various ways in which electricity contracts are agreed on a number of interconnected markets enables the Group to maintain an appropriately diversified portfolio. In order to optimize its entire portfolio and minimize market risks, the Group includes different cross-border transfer capacity products, which are acquired for individual borders through market allocation, in its portfolio, enabling it to effectively engage in cross-border trading.  The most important tools for ensuring the quality of decision-making are advanced market analyses that enable daily forecasting of hourly electricity prices in all the markets in which the Group operates. A flexible, modern and globally-oriented approach to trading is a guarantee for efficiency at all levels of the Group's operations.

Sales to end-customers and purchases from producers

On the Slovenian market GEN-I sells electricity to all market segments, ranging from large business systems to households, while abroad it supplies electricity mainly to business customers. The latter are offered advanced services that can be tailored to their specific requirements with the chosen level of market risk. The Group’s personalized portfolio management services and expert advice and information help customers optimize their purchasing strategies and take advantage of price fluctuations. Small business customers and households can take advantage of a cost-effective electricity supply as part of the Poceni elektrika (Affordable Electricity) brand.

GEN-I purchases a range of energy products from different types of producers, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy sources and high-efficiency cogeneration plants. It also purchases electricity from producers included in the GEN balance group. By taking into account quantities, dynamics, price models and the structure of risk, GEN-I is able to adapt to market risks and regulatory changes. This enables it to reinforce its position as a reliable, professional and long-term business partner.

In 2011, GEN-I became a partner of the brand Baldur4, which offers solar power plants on a turn-key basis.
